South Stand/Couch Report : Toronto v Colorado, CCL, 2nd leg, FIGHT!

Colorado Rapids as the Caribou of Colorado.

Bold Predictions :

  1. Toronto wins by 2
  2. Osorio gets at least a point
  3. Red card for the Colorado Mammoth (H/T @DuncanDFletcher)

On to the Match :

10’ – Hagglund goes down hard. But he’s ok.

26’ – Altidore goes down. Out comes the stretcher but he comes off on his own.

29’ – Morrow takes a through ball from the wing from Seba, passes it past MacMath but also past the far post.

31’ – Seba takes a ball inside his defender, settles it and de Guzman’s the shit out of it from 15 yards out dead center.

34’ – shot from outside the box hits Moor and he goes down like he’s shot (he’s ok), rebound trickles to Badji who fires it into Bono

41’ – Badji takes a long pass at the top of the box, fires it low and to the right of Bono, Bono gets just enough on it for it to hit the post and roll away. Solid stop.

Halftime Mood : it was better than the first half of the last game.

48’ – Giovinco free kick. Duncan calls over the bar barely. Hits the wall and shanks away.

73’ – SUB – Delgado off for Agetxe

74’ – Osorio sent in on goal, fires a nice cross along the face of goal, and Altidore was just a step behind it. So close.

77’ – Seba gets rugby tackled to the ground. Fans calling for red, but it’s comfortably a yellow. Free kick goes up and around into the side of the net.

84’ – SUB – Moor for Mavinga

87’ – SUB – Hasler on for Osorio

3 mins of extra time.

90+1’ – Seba free kick breaks on the outside of his foot and finds Mavinga at the far post and he puts it over

Full Time : Toronto 0, Colorado 0

Man of the Match : Sure, Alex Bono did what needs needed to do.
Goat of the Game : Nobody was really bad.
Ref Rating : 4 out of 5
I Am Not The Gaffer, But… : without the urgency to go for the kill, making changes earlier wasn’t necessary so it was fine.
In Case You PVR’d It : second half better than the first, but largely underwhelming.
Kit Spotting : friend of the section and the show @martyn_bailey showed up with this…

Bold Predictions Results :

  1. Failed it. Nothing happened.
  2. Failed it. So Oso didn’t get anything.
  3. Failed it. Colorado wasn’t nearly as chippy this time as they were last time. Disappointing really.

Toronto showed some mid-season creativity but lumped in with pre-season finishing. Plenty of tremendous ball movement, clever passes, quality runs but absent for burying it. There was one string of passes late in the match where everyone had a cute touch but went nowhere. If they can turn a few of those runs into goals sooner than later (like, oh I don’t know, next week!), then we might have a match against Tigres.

Also, show up. Want to see the best club in the content over the last few seasons? It’s Tigres. You’ll want to witness how good they are, and how good Toronto actually is. Unless you’re satisfied smashing NYCFC, then nevermind.

Too early to get a sense of Agetxe (ahh-GEH-cheh). Hopeful, like everyone else, he is brilliant… MacMath needs to learn to catch… Tragic hashtag promoted at the games for man of the match. #MOMSCCL got turned to #MomsCCL and then we got all juvenile about it. This is something I could have easily prevented (actually, many of you who are also mentally 10 years old) before they started marketing it… Recording the podcast on Wednesday, and I promise it won’t be 2 hours long. Gunning for 1:45, max.

Player Ratings: Bono 6.5, Morrow 6, Hagglund 6, Moor 6 (Mavinga N/A), Auro Jr. 6.5, Osorio 6 (Hasler N/A), Bradley 6, Delgado 6 (Agetxe N/A), Vazquez 6.5, Altidore 6, Giovinco 6

Unused Substitutions: Irwin, Zavaleta, Morgan, Hamilton,

  1. (sighhhhhhhh) YYYYYAWNNNNNNNNNNNNN (sighhhhhhhh)

That game was a massive bore. The Rapids showed up to play…but they are the Rapids so we got missed shots and passes to Bono.

There are some potential issues starting to bubble up from Auro. Agetxe will have to integrate himself into the TFC system, he was good and tried hard, but not involved with what Oso, Delgado, Morrow and others were doing.

Vanney will need to stand this team up this weekend in preparation for next week.
