The South Stand Report : Toronto v Montreal, Voyageurs Cup, Round 2, FIGHT!

Montreal Impact as the Manic

The Part I Write Before The Match :

You guys.  I’m super stoked you guys.  We’re gonna win a trophy tonight, you guys.  @kzknowles is going to present it to the winning Toronto team, and she promised that she would interview the trophy before the game and find out what it’s really like, Tiger Beat style.

My expectations is that as long as Toronto do not play like crap, they should easily win this thing.  Montreal, who can play better but aren’t, are the ones to play spoiler.  They screwed up at home by not winning 3-1, and settling for a draw.  Sucks to be you (Donadel!).

Fully expect to see as strong as a side they can put out.  This should be an absolute cracker of a match, and to those of you who didn’t want to put in the effort of a Tuesday night match, it is a cup final, it’s not the same as it is on TV, and if you’re going to be smug about being so clever that you stayed home if they lose (somehow), never tell anyone that you did.  Cup Finals are awesome, doesn’t matter who or what.  Except the Trillium Cup, that’s dumb.

Bold Predictions :

  1. It’s a one-goal game up to the end
  2. No extra-time
  3. Kristin nearly drops the Cup, but doesn’t.

On to the Match :

5’ – beautiful counter attack sends Giovinco onto the left side, low cross into the path of Ricketts, who’s first touch betrays him and the shot flies well over the bar.

20’ – Edwards is down and Montreal did NOT kick the ball into touch. For shame #sportsmanship #safety #sarcasm.

25’ – Osorio lays a ball off for Beitashour, and his pass/shot thingie forced Creapeau to make a save, but Ricketts wasn’t near for clean up.

27’ – Giovinco cross finds Ricketts leaping head, forcing Creapeau to make a great reflex save. #CreapeauForHamiltonCPL #scouting

36’ – GOAL – Montreal build up, Mavinga makes a good tackle but it clears to Ballou, takes a few touches and launches a shot 20 yards out over a leaping Irwin. Shit…
ROBINS 0, CHEESEMAKERS 1

45’ – Beitashour best his man on the wing and then was clattered into by Fisher, who only got a yellow for his deliberate dickery.

Halftime Mood : ummm… That was ugly.

45’ – SUB – Altidore on for Ricketts

45’ – SUB – Delgado on or Osorio

Raheem, you’re (likely) next…

50’ – Seba! You shot from there?!?

53’ – Seba does something good. First shot blocked, get on rebound, second shot amazingly saved by Creapeau.

54’ – GOAL Giovinco takes a long ball from the right wing to the left, traps it, dances in and pulls it to the low left post. Finally (thank you!).
ROBINS 1, CHEESEMAKERS 1

74’ – Altidore looking to take a big oass over the top and in the box, sticks his arm out to make contact with a defender, goes down like a heap. Nice try though.

82’ – Altidore gets on a Beitashour cross in the six yard box and heads it over the bar. So close.

87’ – I can’t wait to see the replay of that, but I feel Seba was taken down in the box. #GantarCheeseMoney

89’ – RED – Bernier gets a straight for a bad tackle on Delgado.

3 mins of extra time

90+1’ – Seba free kick over the wall but Creapeau had it.

90+2’ – corner ends up with nothing. Ball rattles around and Edwards has a 20 yard go, gets to the net but Creapeau is right in front of it.

90+3’ – GOAL – Vazquez. Edwards. Seba. Cup.
ROBINS 2, CHEESEMAKERS 1

Full Time : Toronto 2, Montreal 1

Holy fucking shit. Now that’s a finish.

Toronto FC are your 2017 Voyageurs Cup Champions, son!

Man of the Match : Seba was a bit selfish but scored two goals. Seriously is it anyone else.

Goat of the Game : This was going to Edwards, but he set up the goal, soooo… No one.

Ref Rating : 2 out of 5. Brutal Dave, just brutal.

I Am Not The Gaffer, But… : Won a cup. We good.

In Case You PVR’d It : watch the two goals, and the last 10 minutes.

Kit Spotting : I was wearing a new Manchester United kit, but no one wants to hear about it #luckyKit

Bold Predictions Results :

  1. Nailed it. One goal game, no extra time.
  2. Nailed it. They did.
  3. Nailed it. She didn’t.

Montreal was rarely in the match. They got a goal early, and it was a nice goal, but overall, they couldn’t do much to get into Toronto’s final third of the pitch. Ciman had a good game, Creapeau had an excellent game, but I can’t really say much about the rest. Toronto failed more than Montreal foiled while defending.

Kristin did an excellent job with the trophy, even if she didn’t drop the cup, she also didn’t drop the name of the podcast. #oneJob… Our neighbors in the stadium are better than anyone else’s. Can’t prove it, just wanna give a shout-out… Seba was really annoying for much of the game. Too many touches, selfish plays, poor shots. Not trying to bring down the mood, just want to make sure that though this final and that secondis in the realm of the Wil Johnson goal, it was a rough performance… Beitashour could’ve been man of the match. Good hustle, took a whoopin’, good crosses. Really enjoyed his contributions… Creapeau is very good. It’s ok to say it.

Player Ratings : Irwin 6, Beitashour 6.5, Zavaleta 6.5, Moor 6, Mavinga 6, Vazquez 7, Bradley 6.5, Osorio 5.5 (Delgado 6.5), Edwards 6, Giovinco 8, Ricketts 6 (Altidore 6.5)

Unused Substitutions : Bono, Cooper, Cheyrou, Hernandez, Morgan
