The South Stand Report : Toronto v Philadelphia, Knockout Edition

Philadelphia Union as the Atoms

Philadelphia Union as the Atoms

Well my goals have been met for this team. All I asked for was playoffs at home this season and I’ve got them. I’m not about to ask for a new goal just yet that would be greedy. As far as I’m concerned comma this is all bonus round if they win. To be honest I am looking forward to the game against New York on Sunday even though we haven’t beaten Philadelphia just yet.

This may be the perfect situation as Philadelphia are in terrible form right now. Anything is possible, football is a funny game, enter your own cliché here. I know the game hasn’t happened as of writing and maybe that’s a bad omen but I cannot help it.

Bold Predictions :

  1. Altidore brace
  2. Won’t want to kill Toledo (I’m so daring)
  3. Toronto win by 2 goals

On to the Match :

1’ – OK, fuck it’s cold. Notes may be minimal.

9’ – someone skidded a ball right past the far post

14’ – YELLOW – Bradley for something

16’ – GOAL – Altidore goes in for a challenge with the keeper, kicks it over his head and finds a lunging Seba who volleys it under the crossbar.
ROBINS 1, CHEESESTEAKS 0

21’ – Philly keeper makes a nanners save from a diving Moor header off the line. Great stop.

45’ – YELLOW – Altidore for something

Halftime Mood : comfy. Defensively solid. Some attacking creativity.

48’ – GOAL – ball in the box gets deflected and bounces in front of Osorio, on a half volley, ONE TOUCH, and buries it like a legend.
ROBINS 2, CHEESESTEAKS 0

64’ – Altidore runs at a defender and nearly ruins his night but the Philly keeper makes a great save.

65’ – SUB – Osorio off for Johnson

67’ – after a weak appeal for handball, the ball falls to someone and Irwin makes a solid save.

70’ – SUB – BennyBalls comes in for Cooper

73’ – GOAL – well. Ball falls in the box 10 yards from goal and it lands for Bedoya and Irwin doesn’t have a chance.
ROBINS 2, CHEESESTEAKS 1

86’ – GOAL – Seba breaks down the left, holds up, crosses to find Altidore who tries to center it for Cheyrou. Tribett blocks it but comes back to Altidore and buries it.
ROBINS 3, CHEESESTEAKS 1

87’ – SUB – Altidore comes off for Ricketts. *hey*

3 mins of extra time

Full Time : Toronto 3, Philadelphia 1

Man of the Match : Jonathan Osorio for his confident first touch

Goat of the Game : The wind. Did nothing to help all match.

Ref Rating : 3 out of 5. Toledo Toledo’d but wasn’t terrible

I Am Not The Gaffer But : I got nothing here

In Case You PVR’d It : save it forever. TFC won a playoff game!

Kit Spotting : saw someone wearing a Union away kit from few years ago

Bold Predictions Results :

  1. Failed it. Altidore was close…
  2. Nailed it. Didn’t want to kill Toledo this time
  3. Super Nailed it. Toronto wins by 2 goals. Was my prediction on the podcast too.

Well that was satisfying. Toronto delivered exactly what I hoped for with a comprehensive win. Philadelphia was as lame duck as prescribed. I’m still a bit in happy town as this is all bonus round. Sunday against New York is extended bonus time.  Want more, but am very content.

Player Ratings : Irwin 6.5, Hagglund 6, Moor 6.5, Zavaleta 6, Beitashour 6.5, Bradley 6.5, Osorio [Johnson N/A], Cooper 6 [Cheyrou N/A], Morrow 6, Giovinco 8, Altidore 7 [Ricketts N/A]
