Interestingly the discussion around last-man defenders, begs reference to the emergence in the Prem that some of the best regarded players are defenders. Van Dink, Laporte, Alexander-Arnold, McGuire are all on that list and many are CBs. A “best player” can now be a defender that actually defends.

Harkens back to when best player title went to Beckenbauer, Maldni, Matthaus, Nesta, Cannavaro, etc…
