South Couch Report : Chicago v Toronto

Chicago Fire as the Sting

The Part I Write Before The Match :

Look, it was my birthday yesterday and I had a conflict.  I could watch wrestling or TFC.  While TFC should deliver, wrestling will deliver.  So I watched this after the game was over.  Unless Toronto wins by 7, I feel I made the correct choice (and if you don’t watch wrestling, you could look down on me, but then you missed it and I feel sorry for you, so it’s cyclical).

Onto the Match :

5’ – YELLOW – Bradley hauls down Accam after cleaning up Mavinga’s blown pass.

14’ – GOAL – Morrow, Giovinco, Vazquez all helped with it, Hasler fired it from 15 yards out, saved but the rebound landed in front of Delgado to poach it.
DEEP DISHERS 0, ROBINS 1

17’ – Bradley coughs the ball at the edge of his own 18 yard box, and Accam picks up the ball and fires wide of the post.

21’ – Vic Rauter said “doodie”. Happy birthday to me.

24’ – Connor gets a cross in and De Leeuw gets his head to it, but hits the side netting.

35’ – Vic said “doodie” again. Magical. I need Chicago to have a player on the bench named “peepee”.

39’ – “doodie”. So good.

45’ – “doodie”. I’m a damn child.

Halftime Mood : strange. Times where Toronto dominated, pinned Chicago in their own penalty area. Times where Chicago would waltz in but nothing would happen.

46’ – “doodie” was a Hoosier. Love it.

50’ – there a guy in the stadium with “doodie” on his shirt. Gross. Hehehehe…

53’ – GOAL – McCarty takes the ball deep, runs out of room and passes it back to Schweinsteiger, who launches a rocket from about 15 yards out, hits the post, and Accam gets the rebound and beats Bono.
DEEP DISHERS 1, ROBINS 1

57’ – the high pressure defending pays off as Giovinco terrorizes a defender and manages to get the ball deep in the Chicago third of the pitch. Gets a free kick for his efforts, and his attempt goes over the wall but right at the keeper. Nice response.

63’ – GOAL – Wow, nice goal. Hasler gets a cross that gets headed away and falls for Vazquez. Settles it and floats a beauty back into the box, Hasler times his run perfectly, gets a head on it and beats the keeper cleanly.
DEEP DISHERS 1, ROBINS 2

67’ – Hasler’s tackle launches a pass onto the path of Altidore, who’s on a break with two defenders at his heels. Instead of shooting, slots a pass across the face of goal, and Giovinco nearly gets to it but it was tackled away by Connor before it reaches Seba.

70’ – If that had gone in… Delgado on the wing, cute little back flick finds Altidore. Passes over to Giovinco who chips it to Vazquez, who side foots it back to Morrow who fires it into a wall. Pretty team play. This is what Barcelona must look like all the time…

74’ – SUB – Vazquez off for Osorio

75’ – YELLOW – Zavaleta goes into the book for kicking the ball away after a foul.

77’ – SUB – Hasler comes off for Beitashour. Welcome back Steven.

80’ – SUB – Altidore comes off for Ricketts

86’ – Ricketts can outrun doodie. You don’t want that in your cleats anyways.

90’ – GOAL – Oh that’s pretty. Giovinco gets a ball over the top, first touch lays it into the path of Ricketts, takes a few touches and then lays it back across for Giovinco, who makes no mistake.
DEEP DISHERS 1, ROBINS 3

3 mins of extra time

Full Time : Chicago 1, Toronto 3

Man of the Match : Bono was outstanding.

Goat of the Game : me, cuz I didn’t stop giggling at doodie until mid-way through the second half.

Ref Rating : 4 out of 5.

I Am Not the Gaffer, But… : Perfect.

In Case You PVR’d It : the second half was better than the first, but you’re not necessarily wasting your time if you watch the whole game.

Yeah, I know it’s spelled Doody. His Wikipedia page says that his father was Howdy… Impressed how effective the high pressure defending worked out for Toronto. Rarely works  this well… That Ember Moon/Asuka match.  Whew. #wrestling… Often during the match, Bono was well off his line, and just about every instance, it was the correct decision. Snuffed out many attacks playing that high… TFC away support, you could easily be heard… Full marks for completely neutralizing Nikolic all game. Felt like he only had one meaningful attempt that resulted in nothing.

Player Ratings : Bono 8, Mavinga 6.5, Moor 6, Zavaleta 6, Morrow 6, Bradley 6, Hasler 7.5 (Beitashour N/A), Vazquez 6.5 (Osorio N/A), Delgado 7.5, Giovinco 7.5, Altidore 6.5 (Ricketts 6.5)
