THE STARTING 11: Other “Welcome” Signs Banned at BMO Field

The Fugees also welcome. The Score? Probably not good.

The Fugees also welcome. The Score? Probably not good.

For the most part, this little corner of the TFC Internet carnival is a place for the daft, inane and Collin Samuel. No one is coming to The Starting 11 for tactical breakdowns. If you are – you’re the best. Today I have to rant a wee bit though. As you all know, last week TFC/BMO Field stormtroopers forced the removal of a “Refugees Welcome” banner (a common site in world football stadiums to offer solidarity with the horrid Syrian refugee crisis) in a marked supporters section. The totally lame and embarrassing mumbled excuse about political messages being banned is not worth repeating. If MLSE feels that a message welcoming refugees to a city built on refugees and immigrants – a city where MLSE makes millions upon millions of dollars – is a political one and not simply a human one, then they are more void of basic values than we already suspected. Not every employee of course – just those comfy suits that act the big man.

Anyhoo. Rant over. Sorry. Regular stupidity service resumes. In the spirit of banned welcome signs, we thought we’d offer up a warning to any budding artists out there who may have thought about creating the following already outlawed “Welcome” banners. You’re welcome…
